The Blogger’s Desk: Kashara Johnson

Kashara Johnson Undiscovered Worth

I met Kashara Johnson from Undiscovered Worth by chance in the Independent Fashion Bloggers’ community about a month ago. I must say I had an instant crush on her strong personality and determination! I’ll tell you why.
I had received a massive message in my IFB mailbox from somebody who wanted to do networking with other Fashion Bloggers -which is initially fine-. I read it and replied it right away. What happened then was that other bloggers were replying as well and since we were all in the same conversation line I WAS GETTING AN EMAIL EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY WERE REPLYING! That line had turned into a total “follow-me-and-I’ll-follow-you-back” non-sense. And this, my friend, this is serious MySpace old-times spamming.
I didn’t say anything. I kept on visiting my mailbox just to delete the 21345 new messages on that line for a couple of days until that glorious evening. An unknown girl named Kashara jumped in the conversation and -very elegantly- asked the girls to stop that horrible inbox-bombing. I gotta repeat her words literally so you can see what caught my attention: “…it may help you gain ‘followers’ quickly, but in the long run you won’t have true and loyal READERS. There’s a big difference between the two”.

Amen.

I remember I laughed out lout -clearly in extasis- and looked at my husband who was killing some romans in Civilization V with his laptop. I screamed: “WOW, THIS GIRL ROCKS!!!”. I wanted to know Kashara! I pictured her as Alice fighting against the dragon in Tim Burton’s movie, and then leaving the place riding a flying unicorn!! I had to meet her and get to know her!
So I did. I introduced myself and thank her for what she had done -trust me, it worked and nobody else did ever reply!-. I got instantly engaged to her inspirational Fashion blog Undiscovered Worth and started following her. Which is what you SHOULD do right now :).

Kashara started her blog in Christmas 2011 -on December 22, my best friend’s birthday!-. I think it was such a great Christmas present for her, as she had always wanted to have her own website. Since then she’s been posting amazing -and super natural- personal outfits, dealing with her growing community and slowly discovering that Fashion blogging was gonna change her career direction.
She was studying medicine in college, but got the guts to leave it for something she really loves instead: ART. So next year she’s starting Graphic Design and we’re probably gonna see her doing the layouts for magazines such as Vogue and Nylon in the short term.
Regarding her “working-place”, she says she blogs from her bed many times, specially when she can’t find her desk under a pile of books and other things. She keeps some magazines on it, just in case she needs some extra inspiration.

Something that I really like about her blog is how she writes about the bargains and vintage stuff she finds. Her fav sections in a vintage shop are dresses and skirts, mine are jackets and shirts! She seriously makes me wanna travel to her city and join her on a shopping afternoon…
I asked her for personal shopping advice and this is what she told me: “My biggest shopping advice is to buy what you can afford. Live within your means and don’t be afraid or too prideful to go to thrift stores or consignment shops. Another one is not to follow all of the trends each season. Only pick one or two that you like. Be an individual”. I just couldn’t agree more. She admits that at a younger age she was super obsessed with wearing trendy branded stuff, but when she began college her personal style evolved into something which reflects who she really is.

I wish Kashara all the best in her new career as a Graphic Designer and publicly ask her NOT TO QUIT BLOGGING. Doing what makes you happy is key to feel fulfilled. :)
