Do you use Vine? I downloaded it the day it launched and I kindly invite you to follow me (@YazminaCabrera) and watch a cute video of Perry the chinchilla having a dust bath.
For a while I didn’t really get the point of the app mainly because I didn’t like the clips Vine users were making. I remember I used to get specially annoyed by clips in which several people were doing stupid moves and faces quietly, while the background noise was getting cut intermittently. And for an auditive person (like me) the sound was SO irritating that I was muting the iPhone in order to not hear it anymore. Eew, it really gives me goose bumps when I think about it.
But I guess you are right: “I was, indeed, following the wrong people”.
However, the PR in me was curious (and hungry) to see what fashion brands were going to do with the app. And we didn’t have to wait long until the Social Media Master and Lord of Awesomeness himself (I’m talking about Steve Madden here) did something REALLY COOL (as usual). Here’s it.

Steve Madden has collaborated with five New York photographers (Kareem Black, Bibi Cornejo Borthwick, Alessandro Zuek Simonetti, Michael Greenberg and Annie Powers) to debut its biannual Sneak Peek sale on Vine. Each photographer has captured one of Steve Madden’s Spring shoes and told a completely different story about it from his/her unique perspective in only 6 seconds.
This is the digital evolution of commercials, I’m telling you. Engaging with customers while smart-saving budget to create something that looks real and goes on a loop? Yes, please. And undoubtedly a brand like Steve Madden -that is able to reach 5000 likes on an Instagram picture in only 3 minutes- can fully profit from this kind of out-of-the-box campaigns. These guys surely have a powerful and creative team of Social Media experts devotedly working for them and enjoying themselves so much! Could I, like, send my resume please?
