After talking about Marianna Cimini’s FW13 collection, I wanted to include a little quote by Marianna herself about her Fall/Winter mood. The pictures that you’ll see were taken during her presentation in The Fashion Hub at Milan Fashion Week this Monday.
“The war is over and, as usually happens after every dark period, there is a rebirth coming. The collection selects symbolically the 40’s -the postwar- to indicate the passage from one period to the next one. However it does not follow the 40’s lines strictly: instead it represents the creative essence of awakening when the expressive capability expands the horizon beyond the rules.
Just like Duchamp elaborates his works recycling and assembling objects while snatching the ordinariness from everyday use, my collection includes masculine and feminine fabrics changing, through cuts and lines, their original nature. The strict tweed tends to soften while getting mixed with organza and wool silk. The severity of the dark grey in some of the items gets lightened with the transparencies and reflections of some other items. This creates volumes of lights and shadows where gold colour stands out over the printed silk and technical textiles.
Femininity is marked by the inlay work in which the fabrics are intertwined. These inlays tend to model the clothing and outerwear lines.”
(I genuinely love Marianna’s Superga!)
Note: I made all the pictures and, even though you may be wondering if I used an oversaturated magenta filter in Photoshop, truth is that THIS was the artificial lightning in The Fashion Hub. Everything looked super pink! Plus, there were many screens broadcasting live runways, and the images were reflecting over the models. It was such an experience to be there. Thanks Marianna!
