Samurai uniforms, kimono silhouettes and Asian inspired looks hit the runways during Fashion Weeks making me wonder if that was a real trend alert (which means that Zara would be copying it ASAP) or if on the contrary it would remain in the shadows. However, the minute I saw the first Prada look on the presentation of its SS13 Collection I knew that trend was not going to be unperceived.
Then everything made sense to me: Asia was a warning sign to all of us who are already thinking about what we are going to wear next Spring Summer. And truth is I don’t wear an Asian inspired look since 2007.
But how will we use it anyway? In the majority of looks we saw in the runways the woman silhouette looked like an inverted triangle. Therefore all the strength of your outfit must focus on your shoulders and neck: NOT YOUR HAIR. Top knots and pony tails will be your allies.
The good thing about wearing this trend next SS13 is that you can count on the fabric prints and colours to help you out: flowers, paisley, geometries, minimal and monochromatic, just to name a few of them, will demystify the Asian structure of the clothes you’ll wear.
